McLaren to bring big upgrades for Silverstone

McLaren has tested its latest upgrade package at the Idiada circuit in Spain to decide which to keep on the car. As Formula One returns to Eurpore this weekend, Mclaren is hoping to make a decent step forward at Silverstone. They used the opportunity between the Canadian and British Grands Prix to test thier upgrades during an allowed straight-line test.

In the recently concluded Canadian Grand Prix, the Woking based team failed to bring either of their cars inside top ten position. This is the first time in 64 consecutive races they have failed to score a point. Jonathan Neale, Mclaren's managing director, feels the car is lacking downforce and that is what they are trying to create at the moment.

British fans are looking forward to see Mclaren secure their first podium in 2013 at Silverstone. British Fans will also witness a four-man Brit attack at this weekend in Silverstone. Lewis Hamilton, Max Chilton, Paul di Resta and Jenson Button will compete for a win at home. Lewis Hamilton was victorious in the 2008 race with McLaren. Wish he recreates the magic again.

Undoubtedly the British Grand Prix is the best attended race on the Formula 1 calendar year.But Britain's lack of success on the track has caused a slump in ticket sales for the first time in a decade. The organisers of this weekend's grand prix which for the past two years has sold out, will sell tickets at the gate in an effort to boost attendance across all three racing days. The lack of a British driver winning a race so far this season combined with McLaren's poor form, is being blamed for the drop in ticket sales. But managing director of British Grand Prix, Richard Phillips, is not expecting to reach the record attendance levels of 2011 and 2012, still anticipates another big crowd at Silverstone this weekend.

Ticket sales were slower than usual during the early days, but have seen a significant upturn in interest and buying patterns since F1 returned to Europe. Also an improvement in the weather and a promising forecast for the weekend, will boost ticket sales to fans deciding to turn up on the day. This weekend’s attendance looks set to be one of our biggest in recent years. The British Grand Prix organisers have opened a new counter at Gate 1 to purchase ticket.

Formula One Kimi Raikkonen to join Sebestian Vettel at Red Bull in 2012

Formula One reigning constructor's champion Red Bull is planning to pair reigning driver's champion Sebastian Vettel with his good friend Kimi Raikkonen in 2012. The news came after Mark Webber ignored team orders at the end of the British grand prix.

Kimi and Vettal were mates during their days in F1 together. The Ice men Raikkonen, 31, left Formula one at the end of 2009 season. Since then, the Ferrari and McLaren driver is involved in world rally. Red Bull team boss Christian Horner was quoted as saying “I believe he has put F1 behind him”.

Bild said the plan to replace Australian Mark Webber with Kimi Raikkonen is a “top secret”. German Vettel remains friends with Kimi Raikkonen since early stages of their career. The duo often meet in Switzerland to play badminton, their favorite sport off the track. Even Vettal said recently Kimi would be his ideal teammate after Webber.

The 2007 world champion had talks with Red Bull last year and has now “apparently changed his mind” about wanting to stay in rallying and NASCAR. And referring to Mark Webber, Red Bull’s driver manager Helmut Marko said “We have other options but I don’t want to talk about them now.”  The report also said Raikkonen told a Finnish journalist recently: “I have never said that my formula one career is over.”

Lewis Hamilton leads McLaren at Turkish Grand Prix

2008 World Champion Lewis Hamilton and 2009 World Champion Jenson Button earned McLaren a perfect 1-2 finish at Turkish Grand Prix here on Sunday. This was McLaren's second 1-2 finish of the 2010 season since the Chinese GP. Until lap 40 the race seemed to be Red Bull's another 1-2 finish and the McLarens 3-4. But on Lap 41 Sebastian Vettel got a run on Mark Webber on the Turn 12, and was had a spin wildly down the road which lead to his retirement with a punctured right-rear tyre. Mark Webber was forced to run wide. The two McLarens who were awaited a mistake from Red Bulls picked their way gleefully through the debris to snatch the leading positions. Michael Schumacher’s Mercedes finished fourth on the podium with team mate Nico Rosberg finished fifth ahead of Renault’s Robert Kubica and Ferrari’s Felipe Massa who had a race-long battle for sixth. Mark Webber still leads the world championship with 93 points to Button’s 88 and Hamilton’s 84, Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso who is fourth on 79 from Vettel on 78. The controversial but still one of the most exciting race of the season moved McLaren back ahead of the fast Red Bull in the constructors’ championship table, with 172 points to 171, with Ferrari third on 146 and Mercedes fourth on 100.
